Update of make-up roles (Pictures)

Cinderella (Huadan):

The eyeliner will not go up that much, it'll be thicker at the area just above the eyeball.
The line beneath the eye that extends out shows her playfulness.

Stella (Qingyi):

The eyeliner's thickness has increased to show that she's a nice character.
The lip will be drawn smaller!!! To show that she is elegant!
(It is known in China that ladies should have small lips.)

The rest remains the same :)

Updated version of Stepsister Stella

FACTS
A Qing Yi actress portrays a lady of good and sympathetic character. Usually of a quiet, gentle disposition and graceful in her movements, she is the Chinese ideal of a beautiful woman. As a wife she is faithful, as a young girl a model of propriety. Her good breeding is shown by the graceful, flowing movements of her 'water sleeves'. The Qing Yi's costume is elegant, simple and of good quality, but not as vivid in color as that of the Hua Dan. Her singing is of a pure, high-pitched quality.

As seen from the update from Pris on Group Blog,

- DV has been changed from nature vs nurture to Self vs society. (Need to elaborate more)

- STEPSISTER- The stepsister is NOT evil. She has been influenced by her mother who has also been influenced by society so basically in both their cases SOCIETY WINS! So what does society proclaim that, the stepsister follows. Its the fantasy of marrying a Prince and that being the goal in life of the women in society in those days. She does not hate or despise Cinderella and so does not treat her cruelly. But at the same time she does envy her. She is an overall likable character, kind and demure. However, the audience may perceive her as shallow.

Her carefree lifestyle is so much more enjoyable!
She doesn't need to have her feet binded.

to cook and make tea for us.
How I wish I can steal her happiness.
Look at the glee in her eyes!
I've never heard her complain.
Her optimism is what I hate the most.
Even with all my nice clothings and accessories,
I still can't get rid of that joy in her!
I need to quickly get married off to a rich family!
By then, I'll get my true happiness!
She will be the one envying me!

Update of make-up roles

Cinderella: Huadan

Huadan is a role for a vivacious maiden, a young woman with a frank and open personality, or a woman of questionable character.

Stepsister: Qingyi

A Qing Yi actress portrays a lady of good and sympathetic character Usually of a quiet, gentle disposition and graceful in her movements, she is the Chinese ideal of a beautiful woman. As a wife she is faithful, as a young girl a model of propriety.

Stepmother: Laodan

Laodan usually represents aged women. He/She sings in their natural voices, in a style similar to that of Laosheng but in milder tones. In some types of opera, Laodan is called Fudan or Bodan.

Fairy Godfather: Jing

The Jing (净) is a painted face male role. This type of role will entail a forceful character, so a Jing must have a strong voice and be able to exaggerate gestures.
Each design is unique to a specific character.
The patterns and coloring are thought to be derived from traditional Chinese color symbolism and divination on the lines of a person's face, which is said to reveal personality.

- Red stands for loyalty and general goodness (and hence is virtually the national colour of China). Black stands for wisdom and bravery. Gold and silver represent the supernatural.
- Pink powder (which symbolizes humor) is applied to their cheeks.

Prince: Xiaosheng

Young male characters are known as xiaosheng.
These characters sing in a high, shrill voice with occasional breaks to represent the voice changing period of adolescence. Depending on the character's rank in society, the costume of the xiaosheng may be either elaborate or simple. Off-stage, xiaosheng actors are often involved with beautiful women by virtue of the handsome and young image they project.
